Welcome

I am seeking re-election as a Council Member because I believe that government works best when it welcomes new ideas and varied points of views. I believe it is crucial for the City Council to consider a broad range of perspectives when making its decisions and to always take a balanced and common sense approach.

Being elected to serve the citizens of the City of Falls Church has been an honor. I was first elected to the City Council in 2008 and have served as Mayor for the last two years. As a community, we have made significant progress in the last few years in matters of development, fiscal affairs, schools, and management policies. These remain critical issues for the City, however, we have much additional work to do.

I am committed to ensuring that the long-term interests of the City are served. I want to see the City of Falls Church continue to regain its financial footing in order to support our education system, advance our infrastructure, and embark on real estate development that improves our finances and the lives of our residents.

While this website provides an overview of my views on many of the issues facing the City, I look forward to meeting you in your neighborhood and speaking with you in the days ahead.

Falls Church City Manager Proposes Fiscal Year 2013 Budget

by Nader Baroukh on March 12, 2012

Falls Church City Manager Wyatt Shields proposed a Fiscal Year 2013 (FY2013) budget of $69 million, an increase of 6.7 percent over the previous fiscal year. The proposed budget proposes no increases in tax rates, maintains the City's financial security, and meets demands for outstanding service to the community.  The proposed budget maintains the real estate tax rate at $1.27 per $100 of assessed value.

City of Falls Church Mayor Nader Baroukh said, "Development of a sound budget to meet the strategic needs of the City is one of the most important tasks of the City Council. Over the next few weeks, the Council will thoroughly review the Manager's proposal and consider input from citizens. We encourage citizens to attend upcoming Town Hall meetings and public hearings and to email Council with suggestions and comments."

The Council will adopt a final budget on April 23 after three public hearings and two town hall meetings. The 2013 fiscal year runs from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

The proposed Capital Improvements Program (CIP) provides funding for significant capital projects in FY2013, and sets a capital plan for the next five years. Major funding is provided for the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School renovation, transportation improvements, stormwater mitigation and management, park improvements, and City public facility improvements.

The complete text and charts included in the City Manager's proposed FY2013 budget can be viewed at www.fallschurchva.gov/budget and at the Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave.). Mayor Baroukh Officially Seeking Re-Election

by Nader Baroukh on February 14, 2012

City of Falls Church Mayor Nader Baroukh announced today his intention to seek re-election to City Council.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Falls Church for allowing me to serve on the City Council for the last four years.

We have made great progress in the last few years, and have a lot more work to do. The City has made great strides in its current development, fiscal, school, and management policies.

This is a wonderful community with amazingly talented people who are making immense contributions to the City. We have incredible potential and have many more great things to do.

If the people of the City of Falls Church do me the honor of representing them again on the Council, I will find it a great privilege to be a part of the effort to achieve that potential.
